Central 1 Credit Union chief economist Helmut Pastrick was the keynote speaker at the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – BC Economic Outlook 2014 event, held on January 15 at the Terminal City Club in downtown Vancouver.

Pastrick was able to talk to the Journal of Commerce about his forecasts for 2014 and beyond, and to details the high points and possible pitfalls awaiting the construction industry based on current economic trends.

Pastrick said past 2014, fairly robust growth will occur in BC, thanks to an improving US economy, rising commodity prices and a declining Canadian dollar.

He also noted that as new mines, pipelines and non-residential construction picks up, the engineering sector will benefit, especially past 2014 and into 2015 and beyond.
