In just 11 days, Canadian construction experts constructed a trades facility for local residents in Cap-Haitien, Haiti.

“I am so proud of our team and of how well they came together for the sake of the common good,” said Jason Walker, chief estimator at EllisDon.

“Many thanks to everyone who contributed to both this project, and its overjoyed community.”

Following a fundraising campaign that raised $60,000 to finance construction, accommodations and equipment, Walker worked with Empower Global Inc., a Canadian-registered local charity, to oversee on-site construction during this project.

The trades facility – constructed in tandem with Covertite Roofing, Walters Inc., Harris Rebar, Bellai Brothers, Birnie Electric, Roth Construction Ottawa, and Modern Niagara – will now host much-needed welding, automotive and woodworking workshops.

The team worked daily on tasks that included the installation of two 80 by 30 foot roofs, an in-house water-pressure system, electrical power and lighting distribution, and playground equipment, among other efforts.
