Vancouver City Council has approved a motion extending the implementation of the new building bylaw from July 1, 2014 to January 1, 2015. The existing Vancouver Building Bylaw will remain in place until the end of 2014.

With the implementation date extended to January 1, 2015, builders can take an additional six months to prepare for the new building bylaw. Those builders who are ready to apply, are encouraged to take advantage of using provisions in the new Vancouver Building Bylaw.

According to city officials, in recent months, it has seen a sharp increase in building and development applications. The City is continuing to offer training sessions on the new Vancouver Building Bylaw for any interested builders and professional groups.

These sessions will address the new Vancouver requirements, as well as revised owner undertaking letters, professional letters of assurance, penalties and the configuration of the bylaw.
