Alberta Tory leadership candidate Jim Prentice says he will accelerate school construction and make sure parents have a say in curriculum changes.

Prentice made the remarks as he outlined his education policy at a breakfast speech in Edmonton.

The province has been criticized for failing to deliver on its promise to build 50 new schools and modernize 70 more by 2016.

Actual construction has not started on any schools two years after the promise was made by former premier Alison Redford.

Prentice says he will repriortize capital infrastructure to get shovels in the ground immediately.

He also says there will be no major changes in the grade-school curriculum until he has the input of parents and is satisfied the changes are in the best interests of students.
