Lafarge Canada's Harbour plant is situated very near to a metro Vancouver residential community, and its unique placement means a different design is necessary to maintain harmony with its surroundings.

The plant is largely self-contained in order to reduce noise, emissions and integrate with the largely residential area surrounding the plant. But one unique feature distinguishes the plant from other industrial sites; it features a nest of bald eagles.

Lafarge has made efforts to preserve the eagle nest and accommodate their winged neighbours, and won an Environmental Excellence award from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association which recognizes “outstanding contribution in protecting the environment and maintaining sound environmental management practices.”
