Lafarge Canada, Inc. is investing $60 million to expand current capacity and add more automation to its northern Alberta precast operations.

“The construction industry is demanding more of our precast concrete solutions to fulfill building and infrastructure growth. Precast offers unique benefits in the construction, design and procurement phases,” said western Canada Lafarge CEO Rene Thibault.

“In addition, end users gain with energy efficiency, long life and safety.”

Construction will begin on a new Edmonton plant in 2014, which will double current capacity.

The Calgary plant is also being upgraded, to improve automation and provide additional capacity for production of structural and architectural products.
