The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has announced that LEED projects in the country are off to a strong start in 2014, with 140 new certifications as of March 31, 2014.

“2014 is a significant year for the CaGBC with the increasing number of projects certifying in Canada and with the ongoing transition to LEED v4, which is creating a lot of excitement in the industry,” said Mark Hutchinson, director of green building programs for the CaGBC.

The total number of LEED certified projects now sits at 1,631.

Also, there’s an additional 109 projects registered to pursue certification, which brings the total registered and certified projects to 6,423.

The 140 new certifications this year are made up of five LEED Platinum, 47 LEED Gold, 50 LEED Silver and 38 LEED Certified.

LEED v4 is the next iteration of the rating system and it requires even higher standards and performance parameters.

LEED v4 will be released in June.
