GREEN BUILDING

CCA working with CaGBC

The Canadian Construction Association will begin to formalize its working association with the Canadian Green Building Council by putting forward names of members to be considered for appointment to the council’s board.

“We’re doing this to make sure, as this LEED process evolves, it has input from this industry and this association,” CCA President Michael Atkinson told board members at Monday’s Ottawa meeting.

The advent of board appointment comes as the Chief Operating Officers (COO) of CCA pursue a Memorandum of Understanding with the CaGBC.

This week at an Ottawa meeting, the COOs agreed to set up a liaison group to work with the CaGBC.

Further to board consideration, the CCA will also participate with CaGBC on joint educational opportunities, membership, work on policy and advocacy issues, cross-promote events and information, and look at altering accreditation requirements in professional development courses related to Gold Seal and LEED.

The CaGBC board position is open for appointment after no suitable candidate was found during elections held earlier this year. CCA board members have been asked to submit names for consideration.

A first draft of the formal Memorandum of Understanding between the organizations will be available in October and will be reviewed at a future meeting before implementation.
