"Mind your own business": Frauds and Scams
The Institute of Real Estate Management of B.C. has secured two very knowledgeable and highly sought after presenters from the British Columbia Crime Prevention Association for their IREM BC Session at Buildex 2007.
Valerie MacLean, Executive Director of British Columbia Crime Prevention Association has dedicated a large portion of her professional life to the area of crime and safety.
Following two periods of police service she spent 3 years as a welfare fraud investigator for the BC Ministry of Social Services & Housing and then moved to the Better Business Bureau of Mainland BC as Vice President of Consumer Affairs.
Valerie is well sought after by all media and her strong background in public speaking bodes well for raising the profile of the BC Crime Prevention Association.
Jeff Burton rounded off his 30 year career with the Vancouver Police Department as a fraud detective for 7 years.
Since his retirement from the force he has drawn on his investigative background to develop identity theft materials and Power Point presentations which have been in great demand as a result of the explosive growth of identity theft in Canada. He has had many television and radio appearances and is frequently consulted for his professional opinion on identity theft issues.
Jeff is the Crime Shield Coordinator for the BC Crime Prevention Association and a resource person on many kinds of everyday frauds.
Learn how the Personal Information Protection Act and identity theft affect the workplace, what businesses and not-for-profit organizations must do to comply with the legislation and receive some indicators of where weaknesses have been found that have exposed customer information to fraudsters. The session “Mind Your Own Business”: Frauds & Scams will be held on Wednesday, February 14 from 10:30am to 12:00pm.
