Peel Region makes green plans for new Heart Lake Community Recycling Centre

The Regional Municipality of Peel says it plans to power the new Heart Lake Community Recycling Centre with solar photo-voltaic panels and a geo-thermal heating system, rather than fossil fuels.

The $2.4-million Railside Drive facility will also feature an education centre and public drop-off areas for recyclable and non-recyclable municipal materials, household hazardous wastes and reusable goods.

Currently, the region is making some changes to its storm-water management plan before resubmitting the project for site plan approvals in fall 2008.

GENIVAR Consulting Group Inc. is completing the preliminary designs for the one-storey, 2,175-square-meter building. Detailed designs will begin once the region has site plan approvals from the City of Brampton.
