Saskatoon’s Circle Drive south-river bridge wins funding

Federal and provincial governments will both pay $86.5 million toward the cost of a new Circle Drive bridge crossing the South Saskatchewan River.

The new crossing is intended to help ease traffic congestion on the Sid Buckwold Bridge.

Currently, this project is in the preliminary planning stage. The City of Saskatoon is expecting to issue an expression of interest in fall 2008 to secure a design/build contractor.

Construction costs are expected to account for about $234 million of the total $297 million budgeted for the project.

Construction should begin late 2008 or early 2009, and will be completed in 2012.
