A crane tipped over and dangled above several lanes of traffic on Highway 1 in Surrey, British Columbia.
Crane operated by Vancouver Pile Driving topples during lift
No one was injured when a crane toppled while lifting a large load at the side of Highway 1, just east of the Port Mann Bridge, at about 7:30 a.m. on July 22, 2008.
BA Blacktop is the contractor for the project, but the crane was operated by Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. and owned by U.S.-based Paco.
Traffic was reduced to a single lane in both directions for several hours. The highway was later completely closed in both directions to allow crews to clear the crane by cutting through the boom and removing it.
WorkSafeBC is investigating the matter.
