Ceremony marks construction start on Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital
A recent groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the $350-million Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
It is a public-private-partnership between the Vancouver Island Health Authority and ISL Health. The two organizations have an agreement on a fixed-price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the facility.
The new 37,000-square-metre hospital will be designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification and have the capacity for up to 500 beds.
The new hospital will replace about 400 beds currently at the old Royal Jubilee Hospital campus.
The total project cost is $348.6 million.
Construction of the hospital will be complete by the end of 2010, and it will open to patients in 2011.
