Denel Trucking employee dies at Calgary industrial site

A Denel Trucking employee died at an industrial site in Calgary on August 8, 2008.

James Jacob Rintoul, 20, was helping a driver back up an empty truck at low speed in the industrial yard of Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd. when he was crushed under the wheels of a trailer.

City of Calgary Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident, which was reported as a collision involving a worker and an industrial trailer.

Rintoul was pinned under the rear wheels of the trailer as it was moving backward.

Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The death marked Alberta’s 19th workplace fatality this year.

The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Calgary Police Traffic Section and by occupational health and safety officials.
