British Columbia government invests $12 million in Highway 99 improvements

The B.C. government is investing more than $12 million in two projects to improve safety and efficiency on Highway 99 between Lillooet and Pemberton.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Kevin Falcon announced on August 1, 2008 that the government will spend $5.2-million for the construction of a new two-lane concrete bridge 13 kilometres south of Lillooet and $7.1-million for paving north of Pemberton.

“The Cayoosh Creek #4 Bridge is one of several single-lane timber bridges on Highway 99 between Lillooet and Duffy Lake scheduled for replacement,” he said.

“The new two-lane concrete bridge will improve safety and mobility for local residents and the tourists who use this route.”

Ruskin Construction Ltd. will begin work on the new bridge in August. The work is scheduled for completion by Oct. 31, 2009. The paving contract, awarded to Dawson Construction Ltd., is scheduled for completion in August 2009.

The paving work covers a 30-kilometre stretch between Pemberton and Lillooet.
