EllisDon wins contract for Education Centre in Calgary, Alberta

An $80.5 million contract for an Education Centre for the Calgary Board of Education has been awarded to EllisDon.

The centre involves the construction of a 10-storey office tower in Calgary that includes 145,000 square feet of office space. It will be linked by a pedestrian bridge to an adjacent two story conference centre that will be used as a multi-purpose building.

In addition to the office tower, there will be three levels of underground parking, as well as a restaurant and retail shops on the main floor.

The board requires EllisDon to incorporate a 100-year-old sandstone wood school, currently sitting on the site, into the design.

The company will restore the school and provide upgrades to the new mechanical and electrical systems. The project will be LEED certified, targeting Silver. Construction began July 1 should be done by September 2010.
