Fire extinguished at Yaletown station

Early on September 19, 2008, a fire started in a hydraulic lift underground at Canada Line’s new station in Yaletown.

Fire crews entered the tunnel in the dark and with limited communications. They managed to put out the fire, which investigators believe started when an electric charger for the hydraulic lift overheated.

The fire was extinguished using a dry-chemical extinguisher.

Construction crews were just arriving for work when the fire started, so no one was injured.

There was no damage to the Canada Line tunnel and construction on the site resumed later that morning.

Construction of the Canada Line between downtown Vancouver and Richmond is expected to be completed in November 2009.
