EarthFirst Canada announces installation of British Columbia’s first commercial wind turbine

British Columbia’s first commercial wind turbine has been installed on the Dokie Wind Project.

EarthFirst Canada Inc. announced that the 3 MW Vestas V90 wind turbine was fully assembled on October 6, 2008 at the construction site, which is about 50 kilometres northwest of Chetwynd, British Columbia.

When connected to the grid, the first turbine will provide enough electricity to power about 700 typical British Columbia homes.

The turbine is the first of seven that will be installed this year.

They will produce power for B.C. homes in early 2009 and another 41 turbines will be installed in 2009.

When the full 144 MW Dokie Wind Project is completed at the end of 2009, it is expected to power about 33,000 typical B.C. homes. Another wind power project is being built at Bear Mountain on Vancouver Island.
