Aecon’s Infrastructure division wins massive Ontario utility distribution construction contract
A Calgary-based company has awarded a massive utility distribution construction contract for work in Ontario.
Aecon Group Inc., based out of Toronto, announced recently that its Infrastructure division won an $180 million contract from Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc.
Under the contract, Aecon will carry out Enbridge’s gas distribution construction work in the central and eastern portions of the company’s natural gas distribution area in Ontario.
“It’s a four year deal with Enbridge that basically involves the installation of the natural gas distribution mains and services from the northern GTA (Greater Toronto Area) or central area and goes east right up to Ottawa,” said Paul Pastirik, vice president of Aecon’s Infrastructure Group.
“The contract started immediately and we have started work in some areas. We are installing service mains down the streets and services, which run to the houses.”
Pastirik said transition work is just getting started and the natural gas distribution work will increase significantly in the spring.
“Late summer and fall is when you end up doing a lot of the work,” he said.
“We have a lot of experience installing gas distribution services and have all the equipment necessary for Enbridge. We will have to get some more back hoes and stuff, but we already have most of the equipment we need today.”
Aecon Group Inc. is Canada’s largest publicly traded construction and infrastructure development company.
Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. is Canada’s largest natural gas distribution company.
