New name for engineering association

The association promoting the business and professional interests of the Canadian consulting engineering firms has changed its name for the second time in two years.

Representatives of member firms of the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies (ACEC) voted to amend their bylaws to change the name to the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC – Canada).

The change took place at the recent association summit and conference, in Whistler, B.C.

According to Chris Newcomb, past ACEC chair and president of McElhanney Consulting Services, when the name was last changed in 2007, several member firms were unhappy.

“In 2008, the board decided to review the name change because some firms lamented the loss of the word consultant in the association’s name,” he said.
