Oilsands tragedy near Edmonton, Alberta

A construction worker collapsed and died on June 15, while working on a bitumen refinery north of Edmonton, Alberta.

“A man in his early 40’s collapsed while on the fifth level of Shell Canada’s Scotford upgrader in Fort Saskatchewan, while installing scaffolding,” said Chris Chodan, spokesman for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

“We are waiting to find out if this was work related or a medical condition.”

The man was employed by PCL Industrial Constructors and the prime contractor on the project is Bechtel Industries.

Provincial officials are still investigating the matter and few details are currently available.
