Vancouver Olympic Village certified LEED Platinum

The Olympic and Paralympic Athletes Village in Vancouver has been certified as the greenest, most energy efficient and sustainable neighbourhood in the world. The Olympic Village was awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) ND stage 2 platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

It was given the certification for a variety of factors, including its proximity to the downtown core, mix of uses, affordable housing, green buildings and habitat restoration.

Southeast False Creek also received points from USGBC for building the Neighbourhood Energy Utility, which is the city’s first renewable district heating system, and the net zero building, a building which produces as much energy as it consumes.

In addition to the Platinum certification, two buildings in the development recently achieved LEED Gold certification. More Gold and Platinum certifications are expected.
