Construction continues on Eighth Avenue Place in Calgary

SUPERMETAL

The final steel beam was put into place on the 51-storey Eighth Avenue Place in Calgary during a topping off ceremony recently. The tower includes one million square feet of space and is the first high-rise office building in Canada to be pre-certified LEED CS Gold.

Supermetal is the structural steel erector on-site and used a team of 70 unionized iron workers. In 1.5 years the company has detailed connection design, fabricated and erected over 11,000 tons of steel.

As is tradition at such ceremonies, the project team signed the beam before it was hoisted to the upper floor.

The architects are Pickard Chilton Architects, Kendall Heaton Associates Inc. and Gibbs Gage Architects.

EllisDon Construction Service Inc. is the construction manager.
