VIDEO: Marwan Bakri of Ledcor on using BIM to build the UBC Pharmaceutical Sciences Building

Marwan Bakri, the Building Information Modeling (BIM)/Virtual Construction Services manager for Ledcor, was on hand at the VRCA Construction Learning Forum on May 25th and 26th for a panel called "Building Information Modelling (BIM) Lessons Learned at UBC Pharmaceutical Sciences Building."

Bakri was able to spend some time with the Journal of Commerce and explain how BIM was used to pre-plan a very complicated building with extensive and often over-lapping systems. Through use of a “BIM trailer” and smartboards, Ledcor and other participants were able to coordinate and pre-plan together both before construction and on-site.

Bakri also said that the project was a “fast track” effort for all concerned, and that without BIM it would have been a much more difficult process.
