Surgical Centre contract award

An agreement has been reached between the Province of British Columbia and Plenary Health for the construction of a new Interior Heart and Surgical Centre (IHSC) in Kelowna, B.C.

Plenary Health delivered a proposal that reduced the capital-construction and operating costs, and shortened the construction schedule by several months.

The final agreement with Plenary Health is a fixed-price, performance-based agreement to design, build, partially finance and maintain the new facility, with a total cost for the IHSC surgical building component of $169.1 million.

The IHSC will be designed to LEED Gold standards and use wood where possible in accordance with the Wood First Act.

Construction is expected to start in autumn 2012, with anticipated completion by early 2015.
