Calgary flagger injured

Alberta Occupational Health and Safety is investigating an incident at a construction site in Calgary, Alberta where a flag person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a dump truck.

The flagger was hit by an asphalt truck and his co-workers called EMS (Emergency Medical Services),” said Cheryl Tkalcic, spokesperson for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

“The worker was transferred to hospital with non-life threatening head and leg injuries.”

The incident happened on July 23 at about 2:20 p.m. The dump truck was backing up at a road construction project at Aspen Ridge Way and 73th Street S.W. The Staff Right employee was taken to Foothills Hospital in serious, but stable condition with multiple injuries.

He was fully dressed in the required safety gear, helmet, reflective vest and steel-toed boots.
