VRCA Award of Excellence winners announced

The Ikea Relocation Project in Richmond, B.C. earned Ledcor and a number of companies a VRCA Silver Award of Excellence.

The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has announced its Silver Awards of Excellence winners for 2012.

This year 257 projects were entered into the annual awards competition.

A number of Silver Award winners were announced in each category, but most Gold Awards of Excellence winners will be announced at a gala in October.

In the General Contracting Under $15 million category, Syncra Construction Corp. won for the Musqueam Community Centre in Vancouver.

The Haebler Group got the nod for the Hillcrest Park Legacy Community Centre in Vancouver, and Vancouver Pile Driving earned silver for the Granville Island Plant Dock Replacement.

In the General Contractor $15 to $40 million category, the Surrey Central Library project netted Stuart Olson Dominion Construction Ltd. a Silver Award.

ITC Construction Group won for the UBC Faculty of Law Building and Graham Construction and Engineering took the honour for the hotel expansion of the River Rock Casino and Resort in Richmond, B.C.

Graham Design Builders won in the General Contractor Over $40 million category for the Kelowna & Vernon Hospitals P3 Project, as did PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. for the B.C. Cancer Agency Centre for the North located in Prince George, as well as for their work on the BC Place Revitalization.

Ledcor Construction Limited won for the Ikea Richmond Relocation.

In the Electrical Contractor under $2 million category, Houle Electric Limited of Burnaby won for their work on the Thompson Rivers University House of Learning in Kamloops, as well as their work in Victoria on the UPS & Distribution Equipment End of Life Maintenance Replacement at 4000 Seymour Place.

Bridge Electric Corp. won in the same category for the Van Dusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre in Vancouver.

F&M Installations Ltd. won in the Electrical Contractor over $2 million category for the GMS Units 6-8 Capacity Increase project at the BC Hydro GMS Generation Station in Hudson Hope.

Mott Electric General Partnership won for the Ikea Richmond Relocation and Status Electrical Corporation won for the Fort St. John Hospital.

Solid Rock Fabricating Co. Ltd. won Silver for the Capilano Cliffwalk in North Vancouver.

Dual Mechanical Ltd. won a Silver Award in the Mechanical Contractor under $3 million category for the Annacis Centre for Research and Education, located on Annacis Island.

Clairmont Mechanical Contracting Ltd. won for their efforts on the Sunridge Gardens Senior Housing Facility, as did Trotter and Morton Building Technologies Inc. for the VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre.

Three companies earned the honours in the Mechanical Contractor Over $3 million category.

One Silver Award went to Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd. for the Polson Tower at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

The award was also earned by Division 15 Mechanical Ltd. for the UBC District Energy System Phase 1, as well as PML Professional Mechanical Ltd. for the Fort St. John Hospital.

In the Manufacturer and Supplier category, Solid Rock Steel Fabricating Co. Ltd. won Silver for the Capilano Cliffwalk in North Vancouver and Ocean Concrete got the award for the Ikea Richmond Relocation.

The Chairman’s Awards for a Trade Contractor went to Keith Panel Systems Co. Ltd. for the Van Dusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre and Bridgewater Tile Ltd. for their work on the Hotel Georgia in downtown Vancouver.

Whitewater Concrete also won for the Ikea Richmond Relocation.

The President’s Award for a Trade Contractor went to Coastal Mountain Excavations Ltd. for the BC Hydro Bridge River Townsite Redevelopment in Shalath, as well as to M&L Painting Ltd. for the Hotel Georgia and Structurecraft Builders Inc. for the Van Dusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre.

In the Sustainability category, Ledcor Construction Limited won for both the Van Dusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre and the UniverCity Childcare Centre at SFU, both of which are pursuing Living Building Certification.

PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. earned Silver for the BC Hydro Bridge River Generating Station Townsite Redevelopment in Shalath.

Scott Construction Group Ltd. received the honour for the Hotel Georgia restoration in a new Heritage Restoration category, as well as for Honour House in New Westminster.

The other Heritage Award went to ITC Construction Group for the Burns Block – 18 West Hastings in Vancouver.

The lone Gold Award of Excellence announced was for innovation and it went to Panther Constructors Ltd. for the BC Place Soccer Screens.
