Massive oilsands workcamp contract signed

Horizon North Logistic Inc. has received a $140 million contract to provide manufactured housing for up to 1,900 people in the Fort McMurray oilsands region in northern Alberta.

The company said it will manufacture the 750-unit dormitory complex at its factory in Kamloops, B.C., starting in the fourth quarter. It didn’t name the customer in Monday’s announcement but described it as a major operator.

Horizon North currently employs 450 people at its Kamloops plant but chief executive Bob German said it plans to increase its workforce by 25 per cent.

The Calgary-based company’s stock was up 11 cents at $7.04 at midday. Earlier Horizon’s stock hit a record high of $7.10.
