BIM award winners

Two Canadian projects have won 2012 Tekla North America BIM Awards.

The awards are presented by Building Informatin Modelling (BIM) software provider Tekla and were held this year in Orlando, Florida in August.

Structal-Heavy Steel Construction won in the steel category for their work on Winnipeg Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The stadium arch trusses supporting the eight acres of roof are the largest and highest in Canada, spanning 620 feet and about 200 feet in the air, and weigh 950 tons each.

The other Canadian winner was the KGS Group’s Manitoba Hydro Spillway Replacement.

The $300 million project was a pilot effort by Manitoba Hydro to fully explore the use of BIM for large scale Hydro projects.
