Knocking it down in Vancouver

A crew with Tham Demolition Ltd. knock down an old storefront on 2nd Avenue in Vancouver, B.C. to make way for a new mixed use development in Southeast False Creek.
Much of the old timber in the former businesses has been recovered and has been sent to a company in Minnesota to be made into furniture. The first phase of Residences at West will reach 15-storeys above grade and three below.
It will include a six storey podium and a total of 189 residential units, as well as 23,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground level. A general contractor hasn’t yet been selected, but Walter Francl Architect Inc. is the architect.
Consultants on the project include Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. (structural), Sterling Cooper & Associates Ltd. (mechanical), and Nemetz (S/A) & Associates Ltd. (electrical).<0x000A>PWL Partnership Inc. is the landscape architect. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in late 2014. The second phase of Residences at West will include an additional 288 residential units and more retail space.
The Executive Group of Companies is the developer of the project.
