Charges in flagger death

Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a Regina man in the death of a traffic control person (TCP), who was hit by a vehicle and killed near Midale in August. Keith Dunford, 44, is being charged under the criminal code with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

TCP Ashley Dawn Richards, 18, was struck by an SUV being driven by Dunford in a construction zone on Highway 39, about eight kilometres north of Midale, on Aug. 24. Richards, an employee of HJR Asphalt, was pregnant and on her first day on the job at the time of her death.

She moved to Saskatchewan from Lakeside, N.B., to live with her fiancé Ben Diprose, who worked on the same crew and held her in his arms as she died.

Dunford was scheduled to make his first appearance in Weyburn Provincial Court on Oct. 23.
