Alberta bridges get upgrades

Work will begin in January on the Salteux River and Otauwau River bridges, both located southeast of Slave Lake, Alta. The two bridges will have their girders painted in order to extend their service lives.

Girder painting is preventative maintenance that reduces corrosion from road salting and weather.

Painting prevents the girders from rusting and deteriorating, which extends the life of the bridge structure. Short-term disruption will occur for motorists as traffic will be reduced to single-lane alternating during daylight hours for two days prior and two days after the girder painting is completed on each bridge.

Alternating single-lane traffic allows crews to safely unload and erect scaffolding beneath the bridges.

Work on both bridges is expected to be completed by March 18, weather permitting.
