Councillor calls for more evening and weekend construction

City of Winnipeg councillor Scott Fielding has called for more evening and weekend construction as well as penalties and incentives for early completion of major construction on regional streets.

Though the City of Winnipeg has implemented evening and weekend construction on some regional streets, Fielding is advocating for a much broader adoption of the practice.

“We know it worked well on projects like the St James Street Rehabilitation project where it got projects completed 10 days earlier than normal. The City should expand the use of accelerated construction where possible on all regional streets in our City,” Fielding said.

According to a news release on Fielding’s website, the councillor plans to request that the public service report back with an implementation plan to the City of Winnipeg Public Works meeting on April 16, 2013.
