VIDEO: Ron Coleman explains the return of the PST to British Columbia
In July of 2010, British Columbia and Ontario implemented a new Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) to replace their Provincial Sales Tax (PST) systems. While the HST is still in place in Ontario, voters in B.C. decided in a 2011 referendum to scrap the HST, and as a result the PST is coming back by April 2013.
Ron Coleman is a business consultant and accountant specializing in the construction industry, and he has been conducting a series of seminars to help contractors and others prepare for the shift back to the PST.
Coleman spoke to the Journal of Commerce about the effects he thinks the return of the PST will have on various sectors of the industry, as well as how the industry can prepare beforehand.
He also gave some background as to how the HST came about and was then dismantled in a provincial referendum.
