Construction industry leaders receive medals
QUEEN ELIZABETH II DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL
The Canadian Construction Association (CCA), along with its partner associations and members, accepted and distributed 38 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medals to outstanding individuals in the construction industry as part of the celebration commemorating the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.
“The Canadian construction industry is made up of individuals from coast-to-coast-to-coast whose contributions to their community have helped build a better Canada,” said John Schubert, outgoing chair of the CCA.
“At CCA, we were delighted to learn of a number of individuals from our industry who received Diamond Jubilee medals because of the tremendous work they have done, not just in our industry, but with other organizations and associations across the country.”
Only one other time in history — Queen Victoria in 1897 — has the historic milestone of a Diamond Jubilee been celebrated in Canada.
The ribbon in the Diamond Jubilee medal has an arrangement of the blue, red and white colours found in the 1953 Coronation Medal, the 1977 Silver Jubilee Medal and the 2002 Golden Jubilee Medal.
The medal was designed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority and is composed of nickel and silver.
It was manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa.
The CCA worked with its members and partner associations to nominate industry leaders, who have helped build Canada and its future.
The nominations were then submitted to the Office of the Governor General of Canada.
Thirty-eight Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medals were issued nationwide to outstanding construction industry contributors, including one to CCA president Michael Atkinson.
