B.C. government review finds merit in refinery proposal
The Government of British Columbia released a review of the proposed Kitimat refinery on March 19, which states the project has economic merit and deserves consideration.
The Review of the Proposed Kitimat Refinery Project: Technical Assessment and Asian Supply/ Demand Analysis was prepared by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skill Training in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas.
The report, prepared by the Navigant consulting firm, found that “such a refinery would provide incremental long-term economic benefits to the region.”
Previously B.C. Premier Christy Clark had spoken on behalf of the provincial government and stated that “This is a credible proposal from a credible B.C. businessman. And without question, this would be the largest single private-sector investment in the history of our great province. And it would be, potentially, a tremendous game-changer for our children and their children.”
