VIDEO: COCA president Grant McMillan on new WorkSafeBC Assessment rates
Council of Construction Associations president Grant McMillan recently stopped by the Journal of Commerce offices to shed some light on WorkSafeBC assessment rates for 2014.
McMillan said that because of the 2008 financial crisis and the continued recession, the return on WorkSafeBC’s investment portfolio has dipped in recent years, leading to more money from employer assessments going to fund the cost of compensation claims.
He also explained that other factors that can affect assessment rates include what happens in the world economy at large, because of British Columbia’s resource-based economy.
McMillan added that while British Columbia is seeing increased rates it has weathered the economic storm much more effectively than Ontario, Alberta and other provinces.
