VIDEO: The VRCA Awards of Excellence
The Vancouver Regional Construction Association held its 25th Awards of Excellence on October 17th at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The VRCA's new president, Fiona Famulak, presided over a range of awards given out to many worthy projects and individuals in the Lower Mainland's construction industry.
Famulak was also able to speak to the Journal of Commerce about her role in the awards process, the breadth of projects recognized, and the substantial amount of work put in by the awards committee, who toured many different sites and examined a multitude of projects before deciding with projects would receive gold awards.
The Fort St. John Hospital and Residential Care Facility,a joint design-build P3 project between Acciona Infrastructure and Stuart Olson Dominion Construction Ltd., won the General Contractors over $40 million gold award. David Bauder, a construction manager with Stuart Olson Dominion Construction and Mike Bebbington of Acciona Infrastructures both spoke to the Journal about the challenges of such a large and remote project, as well as the need to keep morale high for the labour force building the facility.
The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association recently held its annual general meeting, and ICBA president Philip Hochstein was on hand to speak to the Journal of Commerce about the past year and his hopes for the industry in the year to come.
